Other things to note:

This week will continue our celebration of Black History. Last week we studied George Washington Carver, reading a book about him in three parts, using him to inspire our writing exercises to imagine what we would invent if we were scientists.
This week, Andy Carter will visit us again, as he wrote the book on George Washington Carver (!) and has written a song about him!! We are lucky to have him willing to be so generous with his time. We also will have our Black History assembly on Wednesday and Ray School will have a school-wide evening celebration that same day. We will study Bessie Coleman this week and Ruby Bridges next week. For more details, please see the weekly newsletter that comes home every first day of the week and watch for Class Dojo updates. The newsletters are posted on this site as well, under the Weekly Newsletters tab. We have a big week ahead of us!
- Wednesday is Valentine's Day. Please note the information provided on the paper newsletter: We will dub it “Be Extra Kind Day” and students MAY bring a small valentine for EVERY student (25) but you do not have to. You may put your child’s name on them to say who they are from, but please do not address the “TO” part so that we can ensure everyone has one. Please do not send any container or mailbox. Please do not send any sweets. We will decorate paper bags together to collect our “Be Extra Kind” messages as a class. We will find sight words on message hearts as well. DONATIONS needed by FEBRUARY 12 for classroom activities, please consider helping if you can! 3 bags of candy conversation hearts 5 bags of heart marshmallows 3 boxes of toothpicks 100th Day of School! A letter went home: 100th Day is Thursday, February 15th. The kids are really excited about the 100th Day of school. The day will be packed full of fun 100th Day projects. We need your help! **Every student needs to count out 100 snack items and bring them in a big plastic bag on the 100th Day of school. Here are a few ideas for 100 snacks: chocolate chips, goldfish, gummy bears, cheese balls, cheese its, cheerios, fruit loops, gummy worms, etc. Please do not include 100 pieces of wrapped candy. We will make a special 100th Day snack with all the items and share them with everyone. PLEASE make sure your child’s hands are CLEAN when counting out the 100 food items. **Decorate a 100th Day shirt with your child. Draw, paint, puff paint, stamp, or glue 100 items onto a white shirt and they will wear the shirt to school on the 100thDay. Trust us, students will LOVE this shirt and never want to take it off! Here are a few ideas: googly eyes, beads, ribbons, stickers, paint, stars, etc. **We need volunteers from 9:15 am- 10:45 am. We will be doing some great centers and we need your help. If you can volunteer please sign the form below and send it back to school with your child. Each class needs at least 4 volunteers. **Wish List: 100 Red Solo Cups. If you are able to donate these to your classroom, please email your child’s teacher as soon as possible. Please let me know through email if you have not already if you can help on Thursday! Thanks! [email protected] All other updates/photos/announcements are going out through Class Dojo. If you have not signed up, please do so! Let me know if you need help. This marks the end of the 2nd quarter for CPS. Your children are half way to 1st grade! How exciting but also crazy (from this parent's point of view!). The classroom is energetic, fun, dynamic, and engaged.
Please reach out to me if you need anything along the way. Highlights: - Puppy and Snail visited us to remind our children about how to be responsible, specifically when going to the bathroom on their own. - Penguins were a big hit this week! A student brought in the best book, "Periwinkle's Journey" which further reinforced what we had learned about penguins being from various climates, not just the South Pole (like the Galapagos Islands). - We started subtraction. - We got a postcard from Ms. Weidler in Germany!! And heard through email from Ayla in Morocco! If you lose your newsletters, I'm uploading them to this website under the tab at the top. |
