Welcome, Families!
The end of our second week together has me feeling like it's been a lot longer than that, in the sense that we are really used to each other now! Highlights of the week include a field trip, hot cocoa/pj day, growing crystals, and meeting our class pet. If you have not signed up for Class Dojo, please do or reach out to me to find out how if you cannot do so. Lots of germs have gone around, with absences, so please be mindful of that. We also have had a few bathroom accidents without extra clothes. All students need to have a spare set of clothes in their cubby for these situations. They happen and we like to be able to help the student as much as possible. CPS has published the calendar for next school year so that families can plan ahead. You can find it here:

I shared this with the children- Ms. Weidler sent me a message to ask how the students were doing and to say hello! She has been very busy with visa paperwork but sent a few photos of sites in Germany and the view out of her window. They seemed pleased to hear from her. I will try to upload the photos once I get them off the Whats App message and to a computer.
Hello 104 Families,
I am doing almost all of my communicating through Class Dojo. Every student should have received an invitation to join last week in their child's folder and/or through email. If you have not joined, please do! You are missing out on great photos and updates and reminders! If you need help, please email at [email protected]. We had a lot of fun this past week and I am looking forward to week 2 together! I also send home a paper newsletter each week. This website will be very general as there are these other two avenues for getting information and, to be frank, the multiple updates at different places is redundant and time-consuming. I will post each week here for general overviews. MATH: We talked about estimating and symmetry. READING: We talked about the organization of books (titles, page numbers), shopped for evidence of our inferencing (what page in the book made you think that?), and shopped for different punctuation marks (periods, exclamation points, question marks, and commas). SOCIAL: We are reviewing transition expectations, talking about being friends, and I am coaching them on saying to each other, "Please don't do that," when something happens they don't like, instead of always coming to the teacher. THANK YOU for the lovely support from home this week- a few folks stepped up last minute with snacks, I got notes for communication from a parent or two, and got permission slips after I called home. It's been a really good week in 104. Join us for a night out at The Promontory on Thursday February 1, 2018 from 6-8 pm featuring a performance by Bethany Pickens Trio! Your $40 advance ticket includes beer, wine and light appetizers.
Child care will be provided by Hyde Park Neighborhood Club (HPNC) from 5:45-8:30 pm for $20/child + $10/sibling, including dinner and fun! Please note that the day following the event, Friday Feb 2, is a non-attendance day for students. Get tickets now at: http://rayschool.weebly.com/raise-a-glass-for-ray.html Can’t attend the event but still want to support Ray School, enter our Raise a Glass raffle at: http://rayschool.weebly.com/raise-a-glass-raffle-2018.html I had a lot of fun today on day one with your kindergarteners. I hope they all can report back to home something fun that they did today. As with any transition, there is a lot to learn and a lot to relearn. They were good helpers and good friends today.

Thank you Ray Families! Gayle Harris-Neely Assistant Principal William H. Ray Elementary School Make it a great day to be a Ray Warrior! Dear 104 families, It is with sadness that I must share with you that I am leaving Ray School. My last day will be Friday, 1/12/18. I will be going over to Germany to teach English to young children in an original German kindergarten. I am very sorry for this inconvenience - however, I felt I must take the position as it is a once in a lifetime experience, and it has been difficult to find a permanent position here in CPS. Fortunately, the administration has identified a perfect replacement who has a strong connection to Ray School, and I am very happy to introduce her to you. She has several years of experience teaching in CPS and in private school. She also has two children at Ray School and Mr. Papczun is one of the 6th grade teachers. She gladly welcomes your emails at [email protected]. On a different note, please feel free to revisit the newsletters which I have posted, and where you can see some of the things I did with Room 104 during my short time here in the month of December. I really did enjoy getting to know each child, even for such a short time. Your children have been very resilient through all of these changes, and I know they will be great with Ms. Papczun. I also appreciate all of the help and flexibility I have received from you as well. I am also attaching some pictures of our fun happenings our last week of school before winter break! Kind regards, Ms. Weidler Ugly/Beautiful Sweater Contest Winners! Dreidel game! Making tasty penguins! Making snowflakes and stars!
